Dear Parents and Guardians,

Our 4th Quarter is well under way. Ms. Marie has offered up a challenge to parents on Facebook to call in and/or reply with a day and time for Parent/Teacher conferences. Please call the school to determine the best time for a conference for your child/ren. Please know that students will have minimum days on both Tuesday and Wednesday.

I’d like to thank Clara Sittichinli and Nora Jane Burns for visiting with our teachers regarding the tentative adoption of a new science and new social studies materials.

The NSBSD Board of Education is searching for a new superintendent. On March 29th from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. we have the opportunity to meet and ask questions of the top 3 superintendent candidates via VTC. Come join us in the library and provide the NSBSD Board of Education with your input.

The Book Fair will be set up today and open for business Tuesday and Wednesday. Marie will be selling books during Parent/Teacher Conferences.

March 24th, Friday, is a District-wide inservice and there will be no school for students across the

North Slope. Additionally on Saturday, March 25th, our teachers will be participating in a Cultural Inservice conducted by Jana Harcharek, Director of Iñupiaq Education. Jana may be contacting local folks for your support in this educational opportunity for our teachers.

Mark Roseberry from the NSBSD will also be visiting Kaktovik Friday and Saturday. He will be talking to folks about the potential for a residential learning center, possible home ec and woodshop classes.

The Gym Dedication is scheduled for April 4th at 11:00 am. The NSB Assembly will be in Kaktovik and will be part of the dedication.

Sincerely,

Todd Washburn, Principal
