Welcome to the 2016-2017 school year! My students call me Ms. Jill. My Inupiat name, Nanauq, was given to me by Fannie Akpik. I am a long time resident of the North Slope. This is year is my 23rd year with the District and year nine (9) at Harold Kaveolook School.

This year my students are in the third and fourth grades. To support our learning, our boys and girls will also be working with Mrs. April LeFevere, Mr. Brent Lecky, and Ms. Flora Rexford. Our learning is standards driven and we are using District adopted programs.

Here’s a quick look at our daily schedule: Greeting, Number Corner (Calendar), Read to Self, Reach to Reading, Units of Study Writing, Lunch, Inupiat, Bridges Math, Art, Science/Social Studies, PE, and Read Aloud. Currently, we are building our reading, writing, and math stamina. In writing our focus is on personal narratives. In Math our 3rd graders are reviewing addition and subtraction skills, while our 4th graders are diving into multiplication and division. In reading we are learning about realistic fiction, new vocabulary, and using various learning frames to focus our attention.

We are always looking for visitors (that’s you, parents and family members!) to come in and share experiences. You are welcome to drop by our class at any time.

My students and I love art. We recently had our Creating Cultural Art and Art in the Manner of Masters DonorsChoose Project funded and we've recieved a variety of art materials for use in future lessons.
